Surprise Inheritance Benefits Library

A new commercial building that lost its intended tenant, was the perfect location and size for a much needed town library building.

The community bonded and began a million dollar fundraising campaign in the midst of a nasty economic period. Bit by bit funds dripped in.  The deadline for raising the funds drew perilously near.  Meanwhile, one former resident received an unexpected inheritance.

She donated the final sum needed (over $28,000) to the library fund from her surprise inheritance.

“Words are vehicles that can get anybody practically anywhere, crossing barriers of place and time.  Public libraries unlock this potential, better yet, in a neutral, non-exclusive, welcoming community space — and they don’t demand that we buy anything or force us into any one belief."
